Ideally, women should do acupressure to induce labor when they have gone beyond their 40th week or their due date. Maternity acupressure should never be performed earlier than this date to prevent premature births. The indications for early self-induction include women who have previous histories of difficult births, who have not experienced any false labor pains as she nears her due dates, and the baby remains in a high position in the uterus. A doctor needs to evaluate a woman for these factors to see if maternity acupressure is absolutely necessary.
Self-induction of labor should never be performed if a woman is diagnosed with a placental condition. A good example is placenta previa, wherein the placenta is located very low in the uterus. Inducing labor through acupressure may result in severe bleeding.
When it comes to learning how to induce labor yourself, there is a question on when is the right time to do it.
Ideally, women can try natural induction methods between the 38th and 40th weeks of pregnancy. Performing self-induction before the 38th week could lead to the premature birth of the baby.

Babies that have been born prematurely will need to be carefully monitored in the neonatal care unit. Premature births can also expose the mother to health risks including vaginal hemorrhage and infections caused by the premature rupture of the membranes of the amniotic sac.
Before you even try to induce labor yourself, always consult with your doctor first to determine if there is a need to do natural induction methods. Your physician will need to do an ultrasound to check the position of the baby and to see if it is ready for delivery. In cases wherein the baby is in a breech position in the womb, it is necessary to wait for the unborn child to move into the right position (with the head at the cervix) before attempting labor induction.
